In the virtual variant of the Pro League, KRC Genk has reached the final in an impressive way. In the semi-finals, Rudi Ekmen of Club Brugge was defeated 7-1 over 2 matches. Standard awaits in the final, which will be played on May 18. The Proximus ePro League is the most important FIFA competition in Belgium and is organized by the Pro League and Eleven Sports.

Gilles Bernard has been at the top of the national FIFA competition all season. Where he had to fulfill the role as favorite in a strong field of participants. Gilles, who has been Genkie since childhood, feels the pressure to give KRC Genk its first title in the ePro League. In 2020 Abdullah Waiss was already close, but the Genk Esporter stranded in the semi-finals.

“Playing for KRC Genk is a childhood dream for me, which is why I want to do everything I can to win the first title for my team. It’s not easy to be labeled the big favorite by everyone, but I think I’ve now shown that I can beat anyone.”

Gilles’ season started poorly with a loss against KAA Gent, but after that the train started to run and 13 games in a row were not lost. Gilles finished the regular season as number 1 with only 3 losses. In the quarterfinals, it was difficult against KAS Eupen, but in the end they deserved to win 6-5, after which Club Brugge became the opponent for the semifinals.

Rudi Ekmen (esporter Club Brugge) has done well this season and I lost to him in the regular season with 3-4 after a 3-0 lead. Together with my coach Geoffrey Meghoe we have watched this match several times in preparation and we have tried to remove the mistakes from my game. I’m glad this hard work paid off in the semi-finals and gave us a comfortable win in the end.”

On May 18, the final of the ePro League will be played against Standard. This match can be followed LIVE via the TV channels and Youtube of Eleven Sports. With a win, this would be the 2nd Grand Prix for KRC Genk Esports in a short time. A few weeks ago, KRC Genk Esports won their first prize in the League of Legends game, namely the Elite Series LoL Benelux competition.
